Transcript of Remarks by Special Adviser of the Secretary-General Alexander Downer following the
Meeting of Cyprus leaders

United Nations Protected Area, Nicosia,
9 July 2010

I have a very brief comment to make about the leaders meeting. They met for around three hours today and the two leaders concentrated on the issue of property. The representatives will continue the discussions on property next week, next Thursday and the leaders will resume their discussions on the 22 July, the following week. The leaders also outlined a programme of further meetings up until the end of August.

They will actually meet on three occasions in August and we welcome that. They are meeting on the 28 of July. So they are meeting 22 of July, then the 28 July, then the 4 August and that will be followed by a meeting on Tuesday 10 August. There will be a very short break and then they will resume their next meeting on the 31 August. So we are glad that the leaders are holding as many meetings as they are having. Of course August is traditionally a holiday month in this part of the world but nevertheless they will be meeting for the bulk of that month as well.
